Microsoft To Launch Detachable Dual Display Technology For Smartphones, Patent Application Reveals

Microsoft is planning something big this time and the latest patent application says it all!

The company has conceived a revolutionary idea of designing dual display smartphones that can be separated in two functional units, revealed Patent Bolt on Friday.

According to the Patent Bolt report, one unit of the new double-display device can be used as a smartphone with voice services and the second part as a unit for using data services.

"The dual module portable device may comprise, but is not limited to, a communications device, a mobile communications device, a mobile device comprising a camera and speakers, a personal digital assistant, a telephone, a cellular telephone, a smartphone, a computer, or a handheld computer," reports Patent Bolt.

The Microsoft patent reveals that the displays will be connected to each other with magnetic strips that will be aligned edge-to-edge on the side of the display.

The new technology will let the caller and called both watch his or her own display. And, can even be handy in a situation where a user needs to talk on a smartphone and browse data simultaneously.

Microsoft filed for the patent in February 2012 and holds the possession of this revolutionary technology since 2009. The US Patent and Trademark Office published the patent in Q2 2012.
