Apple Campus 2 Project Update: Cupertino Releases New Pictures; Floor Plans for ‘Spaceship’ Building Revealed [PHOTOS]

In an attempt to take another step in the technology space, Cupertino-based Apple has released its plans of finalizing the design of its proposed spaceship campus, a facility Steve Jobs promised would be "the best office in the world."

The Cupertino City Council recently released a treasure trove of floor plans, technical drawings and renderings to give a vision to what exactly Apple has planned.

According to the City Council reports, construction on Apple's Campus 2 is expected to begin later this year (pending final approval from Cupertino's City Council) with construction completing by 2015. The four-story, 300,000 square-foot circular structure, which according to the late Steve Jobs looks "a little like a spaceship landed," will eventually host 13,000 employees.

According to TechCrunch reports, one such alteration concerns the enormous underground auditorium, the place Tim Cook and his team will one day use as the venue for unveiling future Apple gadgets and gizmos. Earlier sketches showed the auditorium designed in a circular fashion, whereas this week's plans reveal that designers have opted instead for a rectangular design.

The futuristic campus, with its striking circular solar panel-covered roof, will surely be a sight to behold.

In 2011, Apple stated it intended for the new campus to "provide a serene and secure environment reflecting Apple's values of innovation, ease of use and beauty. The state-of-the-art office, research and development facilities include strategies to minimize energy demand, reduce car travel and increase the use of reclaimed water."

Plans for the campus include a "striking" cafe, fitness centers, a research and development facility, jogging paths through the grounds of the building and an underground parking space.

Steve Jobs pitched the idea for the campus to the Cupertino City Council in June 2011 in what turned out to be his last public appearance. At the presentation he said he wanted to help create a new base for Apple that would be "the best office in the world."
