The iPhone 7 has come out and has confirmed what has long been rumored, that it doesn't have a 3.5 mm jack for headphones. Instead, it comes with a Lightning port where both its earphones and charger connects. That could be problematic though as it only has one Lightning port and once it is being charged users cannot listen to music through earphones while charging.
A solution to that might have been found by Belkin. It has developed a double Lightning port dongle, according to Phone Arena. This dongle is like any other double port extension in that one end of it goes into the iPhone 7, except that there are two ports on the other end. One port then would be for the charger, while another port would be for the earphones.
Belkin is said to have worked with Apple in developing the dongle. The dongle is called the Lightning Audio + Charge RockStar. It can support 48kHz 24-bit audio output as well as remote controls and a mic.
Gizmodo reports that the Belkin double Lightning port adapter will be on sale this October 10. It will cost $40 for those who would want to listen to music while charging. The dongle will work with Apple's 3.5mm to Lightning adapter. Most likely the Belkin double Lightning port adapter will be sold in Apple stores as well.
Belkin's double Lightning port adapter is just one way to listen to music while charging. Others point out that it could be done by having Bluetooth headphones as well. Apple's decision to take out the 3.5mm headphone jack has been criticized and some note that it might affect its sales. Many who have an iPhone use it not only to contact people but also to listen to music.
Right now it is too early to tell if this decision to exclude a 3.5mm headphone port will affect sales of the iPhone 7.
