Star Citizen lead designer Chris Roberts has recently presented the new updates of the game's progress during his recent CitizenCon live stream. The newly added single player portion of the game titled Squadron 42 was also demonstrated during the live stream presentation to which many fans were screaming with delight over its mesmerizing mechanics and visual effects. But the hype was short-lived after Roberts announced that the Star Citizen standalone single-player spinoff, Squadron 42 will not be released this year as planned.
Squadron 42 was supposed to be an added mode within Star Citizen but over the course of the project, it became a standalone spinoff of its own. The creator and designer of the project said that "Squadron 42 has significantly grown from when it was first pitched in 2012."
He made an announcement regarding the Squadron 42 delays as a means to 'do things right.' He said during the presentation: "We want to do it right. It's really important to do it right," he said. "What we're enabled to do by you guys is to do it right. Because if we were in the typical situation with a publisher, they would say, 'Well, no, you've got to make the Christmas [release] window; you've got to get it out. You can do some patches and the DLC and don't worry about the people who won't think it's quite as polished and it's got a bunch of bugs."
