Besides the possible return of Nina Dobrev and knowing more about the new villain of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, fans of the supernatural drama also want to know if there would be a final crossover with its spin-off series "The Originals." While no specific confirmation has been made, latest reports say that New Orleans will tie into the final episodes of the hit CW series.
The spin-off of "The Vampire Diaries," "The Originals" has vampire Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) and his family who were embroiled in the supernatural politics of New Orleans. The series premiered on Oct. 3, 2013 and has been renewed for a 13-episode fourth season. But season 4 was moved to a mid-season start for the 2016/17 TV season.
Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries" ended with Bonnie (Kat Graham) losing her magic, and the show's writers challenged themselves to get as far possible into the finale season before they use magic to write their way out of Bonnie's dilemma. Julie Plec, showrunner of "The Vampire Diaries," said the biggest thing that writers had to do magically was borrow a dark object from the armory out of New Orleans.
"TVD" Problems Solved Without Using Witch Spell
Plec said the writers enjoyed solving every problem in the show without a witch spell. Instead, they engaged in storytelling at its simplest. The writers have reached the halfway mark of season 8 without resorting to magic. She added the only thing keeping them from a perfect record is a dark object, according to EW.
Although Plec mentioned borrowing the dark object from New Orleans' armory, she pointed out the timelines of the two shows no longer match. It explained why when Caroline (Candice King) visited the city, she could not find Klaus. "The Vampire Diaries" had moved three years into the future, while the siblings of "The Originals" were left two year on their sleep/time in Freya's magical safe place.
Dark Object Inside Armory Vault
The dark object inside the Armory's vault is possibly Sybil, the new character introduced in the first episode of season 8 as the new villain, according to The Inquistr. Plec said that the new season starts with the viewers not knowing the identity of or the supernatural definition of the big bad. Its description was not in the vault and what kind of clawed creature sunk its talons into the minds of Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder).
The mystery would be unraveled in the first episode and it would lay down the groundwork for a great backstory for Sybil.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will premiere on The CW on Friday, Oct. 21.
