‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 8 Updates: Sybil Is New Villain In Series Finale

With only a few days before the premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, the return of Nina Dobrev as Elena Gilbert remains a big question mark since the matter is still under discussion between the actress and CW. However, one character is confirmed to appear in episode 1.

According to Yibada, Sybil (Nathalie Kelley) would be introduced in the "TVD" season 8 premiere episode on Friday, Oct. 21. Sybil is described as the "evil herself" who enticed victims for her amusement and glorification. While her evil character could scare everyone, Sybil is actually in search of only one thing -- love.

Sybil would first appear in the 155th episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8, titled "Hello, Brother." She is supposed to be an immortal who uses her immeasurable power and influence to control other people. Sybil could manipulate them into twisted games and tests.

Would Sybil Be A Friend Or Foe?

Because the series is known for sympathetic villains, followers of the show believe she would be both a friend and a foe. Her name is of Greek origin which means "prophetess." In the series, Sybil has lived for centuries, has a sister and a scene with Stefan when she implies she is a vampire after he tells her to leave town.

As for the other characters, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) are still under the evil vault creature's spell. However, the monster apparently could only manipulate their minds but not control their hearts.

Reasons For "The Vampire Diaries" Cancellation

According to Movie News Guide, the announcement by CW of "The Vampire Diaries" cancellation after season 8 was quite unexpected because even if its ratings had substantially dipped, it still had better numbers compared to other TV shows still airing. By the end of season 7, "The Vampire Diaries" viewers had dwindled to 1.04 million from 3.46 million by the end of season 1, according to TV by the Numbers. It also went down in rank from 118 in season 1 to 173 in season 7.

The entertainment website's theory is that the "The Vampire Diaries" was no longer renewed because of the poor relations of cast members behind the scenes based on previous reports that some of the cast do not get along very well.
