Blaster Master fans rejoice as Inti Creates and Sunsoft team up to make a new game, well sort of. During their 20-year anniversary that was celebrated in Ichikawa, Japan, the team announced that they will be rolling out a new game called Blaster Master Zero for the Nintendo 3DS in Spring of 2017. Inti Creates has acquired the license to the Original Master Blaster, which was released in 1988 for the NES. Sunsoft gave permission and agreed to collaborate with a 2nd Blaster Master title with the suffix 'Zero'.
What's the game about?
The game will still be in 8 bit style, will reminisce the good old 80's gaming, and will be injected with a modern gimmick like new weapons, new areas to explore, and more challenging bosses. As posted on their press release page, the game will utilize the base Blaster Master game as its foundation. The screenshots on the websites look awesome; on top of that, an Anime style poster has also been published.
Images such as an armored tank Sophia 3rd, strange mutant enemies, subterranean worlds, player exiting the tank to explore dungeons, and other awesome Blaster Master stuff are also teased. Weapons can be upgraded with proportion to the player's progress featuring a Striker gun which can be obtained at level 6. Other features are also posted like how water can drag your movement down, sub-bosses giving power ups when defeated, and other exciting stuff.
Backstory?
There are only two explanations why you haven't experienced Blaster Master in the 80's, one: you weren't gaming back then, two: you weren't born yet. To backtrack a bit, here goes the story: the game is set in the near future where everything is chaotic after countless wars and destruction in the environment. Jason Frudnick is a genius in robotics who bumped into a mysterious being turned lab specimen that he named Fred.
Fast forward to a chunk of time, Jason passed out and Fred got out of the container. Jason went on to follow Fred's trail and bumped into Sofia III, a sort of intelligent tank who opens her doors inviting Jason to hop in so that they can begin their quest to find Fred together through a subterranean world.
