A report from Parent Herald appears to be one of the sources of the rumors that Harmon is leaving the show. Harmon, who plays agent Leroy Gibbs is allegedly quitting because of the show's poor ratings. Apparently, season 14 has not performed well as the showrunners have expected. One reason is the departure of Michael Weatherly, one of the show's main characters.
Weatherly's Absence Affected The Show's Ratings
Another report from the Australia Network News indicated that the ratings of "NCIS" season 14 started to drop when Tony Dinozzo, Jr., played by Weatherly, was no longer part of the show. The current season premiered last September and recorded the highest ratings for its initial episodes. But the ratings considerably dropped only after a few weeks of its launching.
There are also sources that say Harmon is thinking of committing himself to another TV show. He allegedly also has some health issues that induce him to leave "NCIS" season 14.
