Mark Hamill In Talks About New Star Wars

Is Mark Hamill signing on to the new Star Wars movies?

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in episodes four through six, reveals he may be involved in the latest installments of the Star Wars franchise. In addition to Hamill, Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia Organa and Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo, are both also discussing future involvement.

“They’re talking to us,” Hamill told Entertainment Tonight. “George [Lucas] wanted to know whether we’d be interested. He did say that if we didn’t want to do it, they wouldn’t cast another actor in our parts — they would write us out ... I can tell you right away that we haven’t signed any contracts. We’re in the stage where they want us to come in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm. Both have had meetings set that were postponed — on their end, not mine. They’re more busy than I am.”

Last week, amidst rampant speculation, it was revealed that Harrison Ford would reprise his role as space smuggler Han Solo. It’s also been revealed that Disney, which purchased the rights to the Star Wars franchise for $4 billion in October 2012, would be releasing films describing the origin stories of characters like Yoda.

Hamill did not disclose much information about the reboots, and also mentioned that George Lucas has told him very little, admitting that he’s learned more about the project from the news. He did seem optimistic and excited about the new films. “It’s all very, very exciting and so unexpected,” he said. “I think that’s the quality I like about it most — it’s like getting a pair of pants out of the closet you haven’t worn in three years and finding a $20 bill in the pocket. It’s just so unexpected.”
