Pokemon Sun and Moon players have the chance of collecting rare Pokemon outside the Alola Region. This is made possible with the use of the QR Scanner.
Make Use of QR Scanner
Playing Pokemon Sun and Moon for a few hours will enable players to use the QR Scanner which is located in the Rotom Dex. The Scanner is used to scan a Pokemon's QR code. Every scanned Pokemon will entitle the player at least 10 points. Interestingly, there are around 300 different Pokemon in the Alola region which means that the player has only about more than 3,000 points in the game.
Players need to activate the Island Scan once they accumulate 10 QR codes which is equivalent to 100 points. Using the Island Scan will enable players to look for rare Pokemon in four other locations such as Akala Poni, Ula'ula or Melemele.
The Island Scan however, has a one hour time limit once the player starts locating the Pokemon. Once the players find their target, they only have one chance to capture it. It is highly advisable to bring a Pokemon that has the False Swipe move.
Pokemon Appearance In Island Scan Not Random
It has been discovered that players can catch their desired Pokemon in the four Islands based on the day. On Sundays, the Island Scan will yield a Cyndaquil on Melemele, Gothita on Akala, Rhyhorn on Ula'ula and Elektross on Poni. Those who would like more information on the Pokemon appearing for the rest of the week can find them here.
Pokemon Sun and Moon players can only have 10 QR code scans per day. This will also limit Island Scans to one per day. Players are advised to budget their time early if they would like to catch the Pokemon for the day. Pokemon Sun and Moon is currently available for the Nintendo 3DS right now and it's actually two games divided by day and night.
