Pokemon Sun And Moon Guide, Tips: How And When To Catch 28 Non-Alolan Pokemon Using The Island Scan

Pokemon Sun and Moon have 802 Pokemon - and still counting - at the moment. Catching 'em all would be quite a task without any help from outside. The good thing about the new Pokemon game is that it comes with a Pokedex that lets you catalogue all Poke creatures so that you can easily find them.

Buffing Up Your Pokedex

If you want to buff up your Pokedex, Pokemon Sun and Moon have the right solution for you - QR codes. These are codes that you can use to practically scan every Alolan - and non-Alolan - Pokemon there is to be found in the Alola region.

However, there are a few caveats when adding new Pokemon. Not only will they take time. You should also follow a few quick steps to get them right. There is also a schedule to follow when catching non-Alolan Pokemon. The rule is that you can catch one Pokemon a day and each island in the Alola region has one Poke monster for you. Ready? Here we go.

How To Catch Pokemon Using QR Codes In Pokemon Sun And Moon

Scanning a QR code in Pokemon Sun and Moon is pretty easy. Just open the menu and go to the second page where there is an option for QR Scanner. Select it to activate the camera. Take out your phone or any other device where you placed your desired QR code. Place it in front of the camera and snap it so the code will be scanned within the game.

Once you're done, the scanned QR code will automatically be added in your Alolan Pokedex. This way, Pokemon Sun and Moon will reveal where that Pokemon is hiding every time you play to help you catch it. Take note that the QR scanner has a limit. You can only use it for a maximum of 10 times daily. Every QR code you scan earns you 10 points. Once you reach 100 points, you will be able to use the Island Scan feature.

Using The Island Scan Feature In Pokemon Sun And Moon

Once you have enough points, the Island Scan feature will let you find a non-Alolan Pokemon on the current island where you are. These Pokemon are only available for just one hour so you have to be able to catch them within the given time frame. Bear in mind that you only have a single battle available to catch non-Alolan Pokemon. After that, you will have to wait another two hours before you can use the Island Scan again. But once you have the Island Scan feature activated in Pokemon Sun and Moon, you can continue using it until you have scanned every QR code available, which will take about a month or more if you want to complete the 800+ Pokemon for your collection.
