Forbes recently revealed their list of this year’s most overpaid actors in Hollywood. The list consisted of 10 well-known celebrities who starred in several productions. The list was once again topped by the multi-awarded American actor, Johnny Depp.
Johnny Depp made millions with all the movies he starred in this year. This year, he starred in “Yoga Hosers”, “Alice Through The Looking Glass”, and “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them”. Though two of these films did not do well at the box office from the negative reviews, Depp still managed to make the lowest return.
According to Forbes, for every $1 his movies made in the box office, he only had to return $2.80. These calculations were based on the criteria Forbes made, which was based on the three major productions the actors took part in before June 2016, meaning only “Alice Through The Looking Glass” made the cut. Animated movies and films where the actors only had a small part in or appeared as a cameo does not count.
Despite being involved in a scandal with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, this did not affect his earnings at all. Depp was accused by Amber Heard earlier this year of abuse. Reports of Depp abusing his wife went viral that the actor received backlash even when it was announced that he would be starring in J.K. Rowling’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”.
Depp was also hailed last year’s most overpaid actor in Hollywood. Last year he only had to return $1.20 for every $1 the movies he made in the 2015 box office. This year may be more than a dollar higher, but he still nabbed the top list and earned more.
In this year's list, Julia Roberts made it in the ninth spot for returning $10.80 for every $1 paid. She is the only female actor ranked in the list. Trailing behind Johnny Depp in the top 5 spots are Will Smith, Channing Tatum, Will Ferrel and George Clooney who all had to return $5 to $6.70 for each $1 paid. Other actors who made the list are Adam Sandler, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Mark Wahlberg. Bradley Cooper landed the last spot for returning $12.10 for every $1 dollar his movies made in the box office.
