J.K. Rowling’s latest movie spawned from the “Harry Potter” world is “Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them” and the latter has been making great progress since its worldwide release in the UK and the US on Nov. 18. Though it premiered in New York on Nov. 10, it is still creating a ruckus in the box office records.
It was reported some while ago that the character of Albus Dumbledore will be joining the sequel of “Fantastic Beasts” as his younger self. Now, with that out in the open, fans are already making speculations on who can portray the young Dumbledore the most. Though the production team has kept mum about it, David Yates, director of the pilot movie and who will also be working with the second installment has revealed his thoughts on the casting.
According to The Telegraph, Yates said, “In the second movie, Dumbledore comes back. There are a couple good scenes with Newt. We just have to find out who would play him. Any thoughts? It’s not going to be Michael Gambon. No, we need a younger Dumbledore. But Jared Harris is a fine actor.”
Yates voiced out how they’re actually projecting Jared Harris for the role but nothing has been put into stone yet. Jared Harris is an English actor who has starred in several productions like “Mad Men”, “Fringe”, and “The Crown”. But fans are rooting for him for the role because he is the son of Richard Harris, the late actor who played the role of Headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” movie franchise.
Jared Harris was aware of the situation and gave his response. He said, “They’re obviously thinking about it. I haven’t heard anything and I don’t expect to. It’s not up to me. Having seen (fan campaigns) before, I find that (film bosses) don’t like to have their hands forced. These campaigns almost always go in a different direction.”
Fans are rooting and campaigning for Jared Harris to get the role because, despite the production looking for a younger actor, he actually suits the character. Fans have also pointed out that a younger actor was actually unnecessary as Johnny Depp unexpectedly portrays the character of Gellert Grindelwald, who was Albus Dumbledore’s best friend. Depp was reported to be part of the “Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them” sequel as a villain but took the world by surprise when he made a cameo in the first movie and turned out to be the main villain.
