"Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma" is getting a new original anime DVD (OAD). An issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine announced on Monday, Dec. 5 that Yūto Tsukuda and Shun Saeki's original manga is inspiring an OAD to be released with the 25th volume of the manga.
According to Anime News Network, the OAD will introduce the Elite Council of Ten. The magazine featured a visual of Soma together with the current first seat of the Elite Council of Ten, Eishi Tsukasa, also known as "The White Knight of The Table."
Despite being the number 1 student in the school, Eishi is known for his incredibly pessimistic attitude. He always feels tired due to his work load as the first seat and constantly frets over small things. Still, his wide knowledge in cooking earned him great respect from students and he is committed to his position.
Soma lost in a shokugeki (cooking battle) with Eishi in "Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma" chapters 162-166. However, Eishi declined to have Soma as his right hand man, based on the conditions of the battle because he knows Soma is hard to handle.
The special edition with DVD bundle costs US$26 and the preorder period is up to May 8, 2017. Meanwhile, "Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma" will also have an OAD. The special episode features Soma and his friends going to the hot springs during a rest day. Megumi and Isshiki will be on a table tennis battle, Soma, Hayama, and Kurokiba on a fishing battle while the girls are on an open-air bath.
"Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma" was adapted in a 24-episode anime series which premiered in May 2015. A second season titled "Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Second Plate" aired from July to September with 13 episodes. Meanwhile, a third season of the series is yet to be announced.
