The chase is on for Valentine and Jace in "Shadowhunters" season 2. Episode 1 will start hours after Valentine left with Jace and the Institute is in upheaval, but Clary, Alec and Isabelle believe Jace is not a traitor. Meanwhile, the "Shadowhunters" showrunner revealed that the sequel will focus more on relationships.
The official synopsis for "Shadowhunters" season 2, episode 1 revealed that Alec, Isabelle and Clary tried to rescue Jace right away but they will be stopped by the new head of the New York Institute, Victor Aldertree. Victor promised that the Institute will prioritize Jace's safety but it looks like he has some hidden agenda.
On the other hand, Jocelyn has a lot of catching up to do now that she is awake. Fans will see more of the mother-daughter reunion but it seems like Jocelyn is not happy that her daughter is now a shadowhunter.
"You think you understand this world, but you don't," Jocelyn tells Clary in a promo video for "Shadowhunters" season 2. The upcoming sequel will also feature more of Clary's maturity.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Todd Slavkin said season 2 will focus more on character development and relationships. "If anything, in season 2, we're leaning more into that (relationships). Of course there's missions and of course there's hunting, but the yearning, the longing, the triangles, the relationships is what really turns us on," he said.
The series also unveiled hot one-minute promos of the Clace and Malec love teams. Clary and Jace will go deeper into their relationship but everything will crumble as they realize they might be half-siblings. Clary's father will be revealed to be Valentine but they didn't know that Jace is not Valentine's real son. There are also some sweet scenes between Alec and Magnus as they overcome trials in their relationship. Aside from the fact that they are both biologically males, there is the immortality-mortality conflict.
"Shadowhunters" season 2, episode 1 titled "This Guilty Blood," will air on Jan. 2 at 9 p.m. EST on Freeform.
