Having won the 2016 Game Awards for the Best Sports/Racing Game category and throwing off bigwigs NBA 2K17, PES 2017 and FIFA 17, Turn 10 Studio and Playground Games' Forza Horizon 3 has come so far. Of course, the racer won't be able to add a feather on its cap without inspiration while it was still a game in process. Here are the top 5 racing games that Forza Horizon 3 took inspiration of.
Burnout 3: Takedown
Burnout 3: Takedown was first rolled out in 2004 developed by Criterion Games and published by EA. It is one of the critically-acclaimed racing games in history, according to GameRankings. The game is far exciting than Forza Horizon 3 in terms of styles of events. Apart from a general race, time-pressured race and PvE race, Burnout 3: Takedown features Crash mode aimed at wrecking vehicles as many as possible.
Gran Turismo 4
First released by Sony Computer Entertainment and Polyphony Digital in 2004, Gran Turismo 4 boasts a total of 721 cars from 80 manufacturers in its PAL version. Forza Horizon 3 uses the 2017 Nissan GT-R car which is hugely inspired by the Nissan GT-R Concept LM Race Car, a vehicle born in Gran Turismo.
Midnight Club 3
Published by Rockstar Games and developed by Rockstar San Diego, Midnight Club 3 was first released in 2005. It heavily relies on customized vehicles and sponsored races as prizes which may share similarity to Forza Horizon 3. What Midnight Club 3 sets apart from Playground Games' racer is that it features diverse types of vehicles which include but not limited to bikes and choppers.
Test Drive Unlimited
First hit the shelves in 2006, Test Drive Unlimited is the ninth installment of one of the longest running racers Test Drive published by Atari and developer by Eden Games and Atari Melbourne House. Set in Hawaii, Test Drive Unlimited offers similar tropical vibe with Forza Horizon 3. The free-roam mode of the game can be considered inspired by Test Drive Unlimited only that it allows players to wander on-road and off-road.
MotorStorm
Another racer released in 2006, MotorStorm was developed by Evolution Studios and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. In terms of diversity in vehicles, MotorStorm tramples Forza Horizon 3 and other games as it has the widest array of bikes, racing trucks, ATVs, mudpluggers, buggies, big rigs and rally cars, even securing a Guinness World Record for this.
