Ian Somerhalder To Produce ‘Transience’ For The CW; Network Wants 'The Vampire Diaries' Star For A New Vampire Series?

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is going to end soon but this does not mean that Ian Somerhalder is going to leave The CW. The latest reports reveal that the actor will continue to have ties with the network since he will be one of the producers of the sci-fi drama "Transience." While the announcement is pretty straightforward, there is talk that the network is trying to hold on to the TVD co-lead for another series.

What's Next For Ian Somerhalder?

The last episode of "The Vampire Diaries" will air on March 10 and right after the series ends, "The Originals" will take over its time slot. There are rumors that the cast members who will survive will make their way to New Orleans. At the moment, however, all of these are just rumors. The biggest question that fans have is this - what's next for Ian Somerhalder?

The actor has been the subject of numerous rumors as of late and there was even talk that he wants to take a break after the TVD finale. While being the executive producer of a series at The CW will put him behind the camera, there is no denying that the network could use this opportunity to keep him close to home.

Julia Plec, the creator of "The Vampire Diaries" and its spinoff "The Originals," has been vocal about wanting to bring the cast of the vampire series to another show. Being one of the most popular characters in TVD, it would not be surprising if The CW wants to maintain a connection with Somerhalder.

Since the actor is still firmly in The CW's backyard, it would be easier for the network to negotiate with him should there be a need to cast someone in another series. Weeks ago, there was also talk that Somerhalder is one of the choices for the TV series adaptation of Anne Rice's "The Vampire Chronicles." The actor has so many options after TVD but as of now, there is no news about any other series he would be involved in except "Transience."

The CW's "Transience"

"Transience" is a sci-fi drama which will take viewers to a time where it is possible to transfer a person's consciousness. This means that a person could have the body that he or she wants. A musician tries doing this procedure but he starts to suffer from side effects as his gets lost in his identity, memories, and his past. The series is written by Thomas Brandon who will also be the supervising producer, Somerhalder and his wife, Nikki Reed will be the executive producers while Tracy Ryerson will oversee the project.
