LG has announced that it will soon bring "Smart Video" and other innovative features to the Optimus G Pro.
Called "Smart Pause" by Samsung, the feature allows for a video to be paused when the phone's user takes his eyes away from the screen. LG will also include "the world's first dual camera function." This will allow users to snap pictures using both the front and rear cameras at once, creating a "picture-in-picture composition." The features will come to the device in a value pack upgrade to Korean consumers beginning in April.
LG says it plans to introduce the features onto some other LG premium smartphones going forward.
"LG is continually innovating to offer creative ways to offer a user experience that adds value to our customer," says President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company Dr. Jong-seok Park. "It's the positive UX that will differentiate smartphones in 2013 and beyond, not only cutting-edge hardware specs."
Needless to say, Samsung probably won't be too happy about this, given that it will want to minimize competition with its smartphone juggernaut the Galaxy S4, to be unveiled on Thursday March 14.
The LG Optimus G Pro is currently only available in South Korea and will come to the U.S. starting in quarter two of this year. Other features to be offered in the value pack upgrade include the following:
Magic Remote Pad and Text Keypad through QRemote. These are meant for when the consumer uses the phone as a remote control for LG Smart TVs. The features are optimized for easier browsing.
The Smart LED Lighting that outlines the home button will now feature customizable colors that correlate with particular contacts. So if a certain person calls, that color will flash.
A Video/Pause Resume feature that allows stopping and starting in record mode for a continuous video.
Color Emoticons for personalized text messages, the first in an Android device.
