With Sony's having recently released its $399 PlayStation 4 Pro last November 10, eyes are now on Microsoft to announce more about its up and coming Xbox Scorpio. Xbox Scorpio Head Albert Penello wouldn't speak to price, explaining in part that these things about the Scorpio are still being determined.
According to Penello, "We know it's crucial to be able to deliver an experience that would the power gap between the PS4 Pro and Scorpio at a price that makes sense to every console gamers."
Microsoft of pretty confident
Penello is confident that Microsoft's upcoming flagship console will convincingly outlast Sony's much-upgraded console. While Sony did not disclose any hardware specifications on stage during their recent press conference, a press release from the company confirmed earlier reports that the PS4 Pro's GPU is at 4.2 teraflops of computing power.
The Scorpio will be more powerful than the Pro
This would mean that the Scorpio, which Microsoft has already said will feature a GPU clocked at 6 teraflops, will approximately be 43% more powerful on paper than Sony's PS4 Pro. Penello believes that the performance delta will be obvious. For now, other information regarding the Xbox Scorpio remains unknown. Microsoft has already given hints regarding the system's increased memory bandwidth but hasn't yet given any clarifications whether the system will boast more RAM than the existing Xbox One and Xbox One S.
The Scorpio will definitely catch up
Because of that certain power gap, Penello said Microsoft isn't very much worried about the one-year head start that the PlayStation 4 Pro will have on the Xbox Scorpio. When asked about a more accurate release date, Penello only mentioned the holiday 2017 timetable that Xbox head Phil Spencer has already announced during E3 2016.
But without questioning, with all the said advantages of the Xbox Scorpio, it would truly be a force to reckon with that would definitely pose a threat on the already dominating PlayStation 4 Pro.
