Xbox Scorpio: 3 Important Things You Need To Know

After the recently concluded E3 conference event, we are now aware of the future of 4K gaming, and it's called the 'Scorpio.' While we already know quite a lot about the specs of Microsoft's 4K gaming console, we still have no idea at all what it actually looks like.

Other than the aesthetics, Microsoft is being uncharacteristically open towards sharing the design of Project Scorpio, and where there are some certain gaps during the official announcement, there are also plenty of amazing hints and rumors that are keeping fans eager with excitement. With that being said, here are three things you need to know about the upcoming Xbox console.

The Xbox Scorpio is going to be VERY powerful

In a recent announcement that brought sighs of relief and loads of excitement from a lot of Xbox enthusiasts everywhere, The Project Scorpio's specs and performance are very godly. As far as we know, it possesses 6 teraflops of computing power. For context, the recently released PlayStation 4 Pro is packing an already powerful 4.2 teraflops. 6 in a console is extremely mighty indeed. On top of that, it'll offer 320GB/s memory bandwidth. That's 320GB, every second, which is simply FAST. Along with that, it will also have 8 CPU cores.

So the Xbox Scorpio is nothing short but a very powerful console indeed that is built to run 4K like a beast. Keep in mind that they don't mean upscaled-to-4K games. They mean native, hi-resolution, full frame-rate 4K games, which is the likes of which have previously been the reserve of dedicated PC gaming rigs. It will also do Virtual Reality, too. Xbox wants full, high-resolution titles, built for VR that'll run smoothly than ever on the Scorpio.

The Price will be the likes of a premium PC

There's been a lot of speculation regarding the exact price of the Xbox Scorpio. Drawing on all of the comments stated so far by senior Xbox and Microsoft figures, it seems very likely that the Xbox Scorpio will set gamers back for more than an Xbox One S and, most possibly, the same or less than a PS4 Pro.

The Xbox Scorpio is definitely being pitched as a premium product for higher end games with the requisite kit and the feature to run a full 4K console setup. Whatever the price point ends up, we almost certainly know that it will be substantially less than a serious gaming PC.

It's also intended for developers as much as gamers

Xbox is heavily pushing the focus that Scorpio is going to be a product of what developers have asked for. More than one comment has been issued by Phil Spencer about Scorpio's hardware not holding any developers back, giving them the freedom to push the boundaries of 4K console gaming without any limitation. Now, what does that mean for gamers? If it works, it would spell a new future of gaming. Even if you're not running a 4K setup, you will still benefit from the vast power of the Xbox Scorpio.
