There's been a feeling that Apple has totally ignored their desktop line of computers. Although Apple did update the iMac with 5K and 4K displays in 2015, it's been long since the Mac Mini and the Mac Pro got new features or let's say a refreshing update. Apple CEO Tim Cook reassured employees through an internal memo that desktop is "very strategic" to Apple.
iMac 5k Display Is The Best Desktop In The World
In an internal memo which was shared by some sources, Cook has officially clarified that Apple won't stop making desktop computers, notwithstanding, how things have been presented to the market. Cook says the current generation iMac is the best desktop Apple ever created and its 5K display is one of the best desktop display in the world.
Tim Cook Reassured Apple's Employees As Well As Apple Fans
"Some folks in the media have lifted the question about whether we're committed to desktops. If there's any doubt about that with our teams, let me be very clear: we have great desktops in our roadmap. Nobody should worry about that", Cook noted at Apple employees' message board. It's not yet clear if Cook is referencing just the Apple's iMac all-in-one line, or if he also intended his announcement to include the Mac mini and also the Mac Pro. But the lack of updates to all three is a real concern for devotees of Apple's desktop computers.
The Mac mini was almost updated every year from 2007 to 2012, and then once in 2014. On the other hand, the Mac Pro was updated nearly every year way back from 2006 to 2013. That PC hasn't received an upgrade in more than three years already when Apple first unveiled its newly cylindrical design. The star of the desktop line which is the iMac is more up to date. Its current emphasis has been upgraded yearly for the last five years, with the 2015 model getting a 5K retina option. It, too, was outdated in this fall's MacBook refresh.
