Facebook is adding weather notification to its Events section, courtesy of Weather Underground. Users will now see temperature, forecasts and satellite imagery when they create events and tag Places on Facebook.
The convenient feature was announced this week but AllFacebook reported the changes are rolling out gradually and won't be available for everyone right away.
The social network previously announced its plan to include general forecasts to events planned within 10 days with a designated location. The feature will be available on the Web and mobile, PCMag reports.
Weather reports will also show up on place pages for locations including parks and cities, in addition to details from Wikipedia and social context, Inside Facebook reported.
A Facebook spokesperson told AllFacebook in a statement that "to get more information about the weather, you can click through to see Weather Underground's full conditions, forecasts, and satellite imagery. Thanks to its localized weather stations, we're able to provide results tailored to the particular location within cities (not just the city's overall weather). This is important for places like San Francisco, where the climate can vary dramatically from block to block. Current conditions will also be shown on places pages like parks, cities, and neighborhoods."
When users create events at set places (such as parks or businesses), weather information will be displayed in the event creation prompt. This way, users can see if it may rain on their picnic, or if it's all good for a day of fun in the sun, according to AllFacebook.
The latest enhancement comes a few weeks after Facebook implemented changes to its News Feed.
