There's no question that the Christmas event is the latest to arrive in Overwatch. It's officially called Winter Wonderland, with lots of interesting stuff being offered. But hey, there's actually a new event looking to arrive in the next few weeks. And what exactly is it? Well, it's the Chinese New Year event!
According to Mic, this rumored Overwatch event may actually happen for one viable reason. This is simply Blizzard's way of delivering what they promised. Remember that when Mei's skin (called the "Mei-rry") arrive, most fans weren't happy about it. Jeff Kaplan himself came on point and iterated what appears to be a hint to this new event.
Kaplan, in hopes to mitigate the ongoing complaints from Overwatch fans, said that the community need not to worry. That's because the aforementioned hero will surely be getting a new skin. And when (which is quite interesting) will it be? He said that the fandom is in for "something pretty awesome" (referring to Mei) early next year.
First off, Kaplan didn't very that Mei's forthcoming skin in Overwatch will arrive as an update or in-game event. However, in the past few ones, this seem to be the path that Blizzard has been taking. So, in a sense, this points to a possible Chinese New Year event, which is expected come January 28. And take note: the studio's other titles (e.g. World of Warcraft and Heroes of the Storm) had this kind of in-game event in the past. So, it's really likely for the company to apply the same thing in OW.
Another possible event that'll arrive to Overwatch is the titular Harbin Ice Festival. This is also expected to commence in January next year and is also considered a Chinese event. Reports suggest that this particular event was the source of inspiration for Mei's character design. This would really make sense if the studio chooses to pay homage to this festivity and introduce an event out of it.
