The Omnic Crisis And What Brought The Overwatch Group Down

Almost all will agree that Overwatch isn't just an amazing title due to its gameplay and mechanics. The stories (of each character) it offers, in particular, are what enticed the players from following the hit first-person shooter title. Heck, it's deemed so good that the community wants Blizzard to make a live-action adaptation film out of it. For those who are wondering, the main story and/or lore of OW can't be found in the main game. It's been discussed, though, in various wikis and animate shorts (in YouTube). So, what exactly is this game all about? What made the task force team called Overwatch fall? What's up with the Omnic Crisis?

The Omnic Crisis

This one here is also known as the Rise of the Omnics. It's when the existence of special robots (called Omnics) came to being. Around 30 years beforehand, the company called Omnica corporation was on the verge of creating or developing a good number of reliable working robots. These lifeless machines were created in the Omniums, which are basically factories where the creation of these mechs happen.

When the aforementioned corporation was found out to be lying about the quantity of robots they can manufacture, it was subsequently shut down. This also resulted to the stoppage of Omnics being created. However, out of nowhere, the omniums came to life and started deploying machines specifically designed for war. And believe it or not, one of these is Bastion in Overwatch. Actually, Bastion refers more to specific units created for the war. Unfortunately for mankind, the existence of these robots started to shaken their very existence. Because seriously, human beings are starting to get wiped out.

The United Nations resorted to come up with a team, which is a group of five highly-skilled individuals from around the globe. This is the organization's last Ace in saving the humanity from the edging extinction. The team composes of Reinhardt Wilhelm (a German soldier), Anna Amari (a soldier who specializes in sniping), Torbjorn Lindhorn (a Swedish engineer), Gabriel Reyes (known to be Reaper in the game) and Jack Morrison (known to be Soldier: 76) in the game. It's worth noting that the last two soldiers are part of the Soldier Enhancement Program of the United States.

Fortunately, there is a gleam of hope, as the Overwatch heroes are able to take down the Omnics one by one. The whole generation is then inspired by the actions of these characters, with Anna's daughter Pharah being one. She eventually joined the team later on.

In the long run, the members of the team increased. It already includes the cyborg ninja Genji, the gorilla genius Winston, the ever-lovely Tracer, the Swedish scientist and medic Mercy, the outlaw prodigy McCree and the Chinese climatologist Mei. More of these heroes will arrive (Symmetra, D.Va, Lucio, Zenyatta and Genji's brother Hanzo).

The Fall Of Overwatch

This is definitely the most interesting (ironically) part in the game's main storyline. The fall started when Reaper (Reyes) along with his Blackwatch group started seeding mischievous activities. From assassinations to kidnappings to tortures, these were part of the group's play. Even Morrison and Reyes are starting to disagree with each other, as they both have different take on the future of Overwatch. After 20 long years, the group was disbanded. The members then go on their separate ways, with some working as mercenaries and whatnots. Interestingly, Blizzard has yet to put a decent end to the storyline. So, in a sense, we can expect the story to unfold as the game grows bigger.
