At this point in time, it's already sure that Microsoft intended to let the Surface Pro line skip 2016. Take note that the Surface Pro 4 was unleashed October of 2015. Nevertheless, the Pro 4 is quite competitive so it's understandable if Microsoft decided to not follow up on the series just one year later. However, now that 2017 is here, fans can officially say that the new Surface Pro 5 is already overdue. With that, rumor has it that the said Surface Pro successor will be released early this year.
Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Rumored Release
Since it's a bit unimaginable for the company to skip two calendar years before refreshing its Surface Pro line, it's almost certain that Microsoft will be releasing the Surface Pro 5 this year. Specifically, the company could release it first quarter of this year, as per Phone Arena's report.
Although the cycle is quite odd, the Q1 release rumor is believable. Taking at least two years in refreshing a gadget line is a bit too long, while taking about a year and a half to do so is pretty understandable. The Surface Pro 4 is still competitive the whole year of 2016 so Microsoft has a reason holding up Surface Pro 5's arrival.
Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Rumored Specs
As per Digi Times, the Surface Pro 5 2-in-1 device could feature a magnetic charging Surface Pen and an ultra HD display. Nonetheless, there really aren't a lot of solid leaks about the supposed Surface Pro 5. It's worth mentioning though that there were also rumors pointing to the Surface Pro 5's use of Intel's Kaby Lake processors. Needless to say, unless Microsoft finally says something about the Surface Pro 5, nothing is official just yet. Fans just have to wait a few more months to find out whether or not these Surface Pro 5 release date rumors are actually true.
