Following the release of a new update in Forza Horizon 3 to support the Rockstar Energy Car Pack for January 2017, Playground Games has mistakenly let out an unencrypted developer build of the game, leaking a bunch of vehicles that have not been formally introduced yet. For PC gamers, however, the update being rolled out infuriated many fans as it wipes saved games.
Forza Horizon 3 has been set to receive this year's first monthly batch of new vehicles Tuesday, Jan. 3. To support the Rockstar Energy Car Pack, Playground Games released a patch across platforms for a smooth sailing introduction of these cars. However, the most untoward incident a developer can ever imagine happened as soon as releasing the said update last Tuesday.
Playable Version Is .35.2
On Forza Motorsport website, community manager Brian Ekberg first ordered at the time that ongoing updates on PCs be canceled. This warning came after Playground Games discovered that the update they released was the .37.2 version instead of .35.2. Some players were able to receive the correct patch, while others successfully aborted the wrong update. For those who have downloaded the .37.2 version are advised to uninstall Forza Horizon 3.
In his latest statement, Ekberg said that "PC players who have the FH3 version ending with .37.2 should immediately uninstall that version of the game then re-install. The correct playable version should end in .35.2." He explained that a new saved game under the .37.2 will be corrupted; hence further announced to only play on .35.2 version to get rid of this problem. Players can check which version they get on the launch screen where they log in.
Fans Furious Over New Update
Unfortunately, many players were also able to finish the .37.2 version of the patch and have played with it already. This means that saved games under this version will be corrupted and wiped out. On Reddit, the Forza Horizon 3 community was bombarded with complaints and disgust over what happened. One user named MapleSurrup said, "So I installed the update, and reinstalled...without seeing any of this info, and when I tried to run it, it said my profile was corrupt [ed] and I can't play with that account...very disappointing."
In the meantime, the least thing Forza Horizon 3 players on PC can do for now is to wait for Playground Games' instructions so everything will not turn from bad to worse.
