As 2017 opens, Playground Games vowed to move on to a new year "full of fast cars, fun events, and... surprises." Today, Dec. 31 at 9 p.m. PT, the Forza Horizon 3 team will be streaming on its Beam and Twitch channels the annual New Year's Eve game.
On top of that, the January 2017 VIP car will also be revealed. Meanwhile, let's take a look back at Forza Horizon 3 and to the year that was.
Forza Horizon 3 Unveiling
June 2016 marked the first official public showing of Forza Horizon 3 at the E3 event of Xbox. The unveiling of the game had taken the E3 2016 by storm among other Playground Games' announcements on Forza Racing Championship, Le Mans and Forza Motorsport 6. After the revelation at the Xbox Briefing, Playground Games creative director Ralph Fulton announced Australia as the setting and introduced the first worldwide demo gameplay of Forza Horizon 3 on Xbox One and PC that gathered cheers and claps from the audiences.
Forza Garage Series
In the following month, the developer began showcasing cars from the game one by one via Forza Motorsport website's weekly Forza Garage feature. The Polaris RZR XP 1000 EPS and the Ford Falcon XR8 were first revealed. Later, Australian classics were unveiled including the GTS Maloo, the original Holden Ute and the 1974 Holden Sandman HQ Panel Van. In August 2016, Playground Games transported the racing game to the land of luxury cars, Germany, for its press briefing. This month also concluded the Forza Garage series of Forza Horizon 3 with road classics Ford Super Deluxe "Woody" and Reliant Supervan III.
Forza Horizon 3 Launching
Deemed by Playground Games as its biggest game yet, Forza Horizon 3 was finally launched to Xbox One and Windows PC by the end of September 2016. Beforehand, the developer already released the most prestigious demo for the game in preparation for its official launch at the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles, California. The launch party was graced by Ken Block arriving in a Gymkhana 9. Both critics and fans were stunned by what Playground Games and Turn 10 Studios came up with.
Forza Horizon 3 Events, Car Packs, Expansion
Fresh from its release, Forza Horizon 3 immediately gave away the 1994 Nissan Silvia K's, also known as the S14, the most requested car in Forza history, through the S14th event in October 2016. By November, the Alpinestars Car Pack was released with cars and in December, the Logitech G Car Pack. December also marked the release of the game's first expansion, Blizzard Mountain, bringing players to the snowy mountains of Australia.
