‘Rocket League' Tops PlayStation's Best-Selling Games For 2016; ‘Battlefield 1', ‘Overwatch’, And More Makes The List

PlayStation has just revealed its top selling video games for the year 2016 and it includes a lot of popular video game titles. Though there tons of favorites from last year, “Rocket League” surprisingly reigns as the most downloaded video game in the world. Other known titles such as “Battlefield 1”, “Overwatch”, and many more made the list.

“Rocket League”, the popular vehicular soccer video game developed by Psyonix has surprisingly turned out to be the most downloaded video game in 2016 despite many games such as “Overwatch” and “Battlefield 1” making some noise as few of the best games last year. But sports games have always been popular so it does not come so much as a surprise for the majority. “Rocket League”, which was initially released in July 2015, is the best-selling video games both in North America and Europe. Though the said video game has been made available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and the Xbox One, it will be soon released on OS X and Linux on a date which Psyonix has yet to announce.

Other video game titles that earned the fifth up to the second places as best-selling PlayStation 4 video games in Europe are “Destiny: Rise of Iron”, “Battlefield 1”, “Battlefield 4”, and another soccer video game, “FIFA 17” respectively. However, in North America the other most downloaded video games are “Battlefield 1”, “Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition”, “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare”, and “Tom Clancy’s The Division” in the second, third, fourth, and fifth spots respectively. “Final Fantasy XV” still made it on the last and 20th spot as the best-selling video game in North America despite just getting released on Nov. 30 last year. Other notable mentions that were in the top 20 best-selling video games for PlayStation 4 in Europe and North America last year are “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt”, “Star Wars Battlefront”, “Far Cry Primal”, “Rainbow Six Siege”, and “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End”.

Battlefield 1” remains consistent as it stays in the top five spots of both charts since it made a bang last year with its new immersive first person shooter environment. The said video game was set in a very realistic World War 1 era that gave avid gamers a truly different FPS gameplay experience. Even prior to its release in October 2106, the beta version was already joined by millions of players worldwide and gained positive reviews for being highly variant and enhanced compared to the previous “Battlefield” video game titles.
