Nintendo Switch News And Updates: Japanese Newspaper Leaks Switch Price And Release Date

A Japanese paper just jumped the gun on the possible price and release date of the much-awaited Nintendo Switch.

"Nikkei" is known for successfully calling important details of Nintendo releases from the past. The publication did so with the Nintendo DSi and the 3DS before it came really close with its announcements for the Wii U.

This time, however, 'Nikkei" revealed that the price of the Switch will be somewhere around ¥25,000 which is roughly equivalent to $215. That figure does not stray that much from previous rumors and leaks. As a matter of fact, GameSeek has already listed the Switch along with a retail price. The UK-based online video game retailer listed it for £198.50 which translates to around $241 as of this writing.

Shack News, a branch of Toys R Us in Canada, also leaked the price of the Switch back in November. Its online listing pegged the price of the console at $329.99 CAD which is worth around $245 USD.

By using these three leaks as leverage, it can be assumed that the price of the Switch will not go further north than $250 which has been the most popular guess so far.

While Nikkei has indeed been proven right before with its pre-official release announcements, basing the U.S. price of the Switch on the estimate in Japanese currency may not work out later on. When Nikkei estimated the cost of the Wii U before, they came up with ¥26,250 which was more than the actual retail price in the U.S which was $299. Engadget notes that international pricing may not correlate directly to the exchange rate which is why these leaked prices should be taken with a grain of salt.

GameSeek and Shack News also revealed the release date which is supposedly on March 17 this year.
