Despite the NES Classic Edition's popularity and nostalgic feel, there are at least three problems with it - lack of stocks, short controller wires and limited games.
The first problem is yet to be solved as there have been no mini NES sightings since 2017 started except for the ones being sold on eBay for a far higher value than its original retail price.
There have been a number of solutions being offered for the short cables of the console's controllers. Wireless controllers and extension cables are the most popular.
Those lucky enough to get their hands on a NES Classic have most likely played all the 30 pre-installed games by now and are now wondering why Nintendo decided to limit the number of playable games on the console.
Fortunately, a solution has been found. That is, if the user is willing to take the risk.
At least a couple of hackers have found a way to add more games to the mini NES' library. This is how one of them did it:
- Before anything else, make sure the games that are being transferred are the owner's own.
- Load the NES Classic console and start the "Super Mario Bros." game.
- Once the game starts press reset.
- Create a save slot in the first slot.
- Connect the NES Classic to a computer using a USB cable and the USB port.
- Download and then extract the file from this link.
- Load up hackchi.exo
- A message may appear saying this is a virus. This is a false positive and may be skipped.
- Click Add More Games and select the game.
- On the right hand side, fill-up or change the necessary details such as release date of the game and publisher name.
- Click "Google" to get the game cover.
- Repeat the process to add more games.
- If the user wants to delete games, just by right-clicking the mouse and choosing "Delete".
The user can add as many as 80 games into the mini NES as this has been the figure mentioned by others who have already hacked their consoles.
