Doug Cockle, the voice actor of Gerard in The Witcher 3, describes the awkward process of having to voice over sex scenes in the game. He describes the process of when someone catches another person masturbating.
Video games nowadays are becoming much more liberated with developers making bold moves to include explicit content. While some games include more gore and violence, other titles are now featuring sex scenes. In fact, the latest installment in the Witcher series is no stranger to both concepts.
Geralt's Voice Actor Reveals His Experience With the Sex Scenes
Voice actor Doug Cockle recently revealed his experience working on the more difficult scenes in the game, as per Kotaku. He actually stumbled upon this specific project by chance as CDProjekt Red went with a different recording studio. Cockle learned of the job opening through a friend and followed up with his contacts in the company.
Upon landing the job, the voice actor did not have any difficulty voicing the protagonist again. In fact, he described the feeling like 'slipping into a comfortable bath.' Cockle felt much more relaxed this time but still sounded in line with Gerard's previous voice.
On the other hand, he actually never met the other voice actors behind the characters of Triss Merigold or Yennefer of Vengerberg. Because of this, he had to voice the intimate scenes of the game by himself. He claimed that the entire process was awkward and compared the feeling to being caught masturbating.
Dockle claimed that he would have to do multiple takes when doing violent scenes like when grunting or taking damage. Similarly, he also did multiple takes of noises and grunts when voicing over sex scenes. The voice actor had to be very imaginative with the sounds he made since he had no idea what Geralt's partner was doing to his character.

In the end, it seems like his efforts paid off since the game has one of the best sex scenes on PC, as per PCGamesN. The title contains a wide range of different intimate acts as various women can perform the act with Geralt. Even the downloadable content (DLC) provides more partners for the protagonist to get frisky with.
The Witcher 3 was awarded plenty of awards during 2015 with fans claiming that it was the best game of the year. Aside from containing a bucket load of fanservice, many praised the installment for its enticing story and bountiful exploration. Fans can play the game on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
