Nintendo Wii U, 3DS Games Announced: New Zelda, Mario, Yoshi's Island; Pikmin 3 Delayed (Video)

Wednesday's Nintendo Direct update was a pretty big one for Wii U and 3DS fans, as Nintendo tried to boost interest in its consoles by announcing a plethora of brand new games. Nearly all the titles revealed were 3DS games, but the Wii U made a couple of appearances as well. Let's take a look at what the Big N revealed:

Nintendo 3DS

- Perhaps most exciting for 3DS owners is that a brand new Legend of Zelda game was revealed, set in the world of A Link to the Past. The Japanese title roughly translates to A Link to the Past 2, but there's no word on whether this Zelda title will sport the same name. Otherwise, it's a brand new Zelda game, with new dungeons and an original story.

- A brand new Yoshi's Island was revealed, with brief footage indicating it's a mashup of the original SNES game's chalky art direction and 3D rendering. This'll be the third Yoshi's Island entry since the original, as a DS title was released in 2006 to mixed reviews. No release date was mentioned, but expect it sometime this year.

- The latest installment of the Mario RPG series, Mario and Luigi: Dream Team was shown off with a brand new trailer. Nintendo said the game will be available on Aug. 11.

- A new Mario Party will be hitting the 3DS this winter with brand new minigames and boards. This seems like an obvious choice for online multiplayer, but with Nintendo you can never be 100 percent sure.

- A new trailer was revealed for Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It'll arrive on June 9.

- The remake of Donkey Kong Country Returns will be available on May 24.

- Square-Enix's RPG Bravely Default: Flying Fairy won't hit 3DS until 2014.

Nintendo Wii U

- The bad news first: Pikmin 3 is being delayed until August. That is a pretty huge announcement considering it was supposed to be a "launch window" title. The good news is that the new footage (complete with new flying Pikmin) looks great.

- The first set of downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros. U, called New Super Luigi U, will be available this summer.

- The cult classic SNES game Earthbound will finally be re-released on the Virtual Console. This will mark the first time the game will be available for purchase since its original release in 1995.
