Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Features, Release Date Rumor Roundup

As Google's May I/O Conference approaches, attention is slowly but surely turning to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Although we don't even know if Key Lime Pie will be Android 5.0's official name, it's expected that Google will debut the new operating system at its big event.

So far, there have been a lot of rumors about Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and the features it might have, but Google has, of course, refused to say anything. At this point, everything is speculation, but in the mobile world, that never stops anyone. Let's see what's been making the rounds lately:

First of all, just as Jelly Bean's Project Butter brought some much-needed performance enhancements to Android, Key Lime Pie is expected to do the same. You don't need a crystal ball to predict that the new OS will be faster, smoother, have less bugs and issues, and potentially use less energy to run.

When it comes to more specific features, though, Key Lime Pie speculators look into the possibility that Google will use Google Babble to integrate SMS text messaging, VoIP and video calls into one unified messaging service, much like the iPhone's iMessage. If the search giant does decide to go this route, it could mean support for group chats, file sharing and more.

Of course, Key Lime Pie would probably arrive with improved Google Now features, better widgets and other things we don't know about just yet, but what many people want to know is what new products will ship with Android 5.0 out of the box.

Right now, the Internet has thrown around the Motorola X, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 as devices that could be released running on Key Lime Pie. Even the Galaxy S4 was rumored to have it at one point. Since many expect the Motorola X to be the company's first phone since it was acquired by Google, some think it'll be one of the first devices to debut the new OS, but the truth of the matter is: we simply don't know.

The biggest kicker of all is that we're not even 100 percent sure Key Lime Pie will be at the I/O conference! Since Jelly Bean was unveiled at the same time last year, it's expected Android 5.0 will be there, but Google hasn't confirmed the information. A leaked Qualcomm document claims that the new OS will land around the time for I/O, and when the company ordered the documents removed from the Internet it seemed to confirm everyone's collective thought. Regardless, whenever Key Lime Pie does show up, we'll be sure to report the details.
