Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that his company would announce "amazing new hardware in the fall" which is pretty safe to assume he was speaking about the rumored iPhone 5S and the low-cost iPhone, as well as the iPad 5 and iPad mini. A new report claims that Apple has already decided when it's going to release those products.
According to a new report, Apple is reportedly planning to launch the iPhone 5S and the low-cost iPhone in early September. The iPhone 5S isn't expected to be a major departure from the current iPhone 5. The iPhone 5S is rumored to ship with a biometric fingerprint reader on its home button, as well as be the first iOS device to ship with Apple's latest A7 custom chip.
An image of what is supposedly the low-cost iPhone recently leaked and the current rumored specs of the smartphone say it will have a plastic 4-inch Retina display, feature an A5 processor, be made out of polycarbonate to keep costs down, and also sport a 5-megapixel rear camera.
According to the report the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 will both be introduced at the same event, just like the fourth generation iPad and iPad mini were last year. The iPad 5 is expected to get a major redesign and take on the current design of the iPad mini. The iPad 5 is also expected to ship with the same A7 processor that will first debut in the iPhone 5S. The iPad mini 2 is expected to be refreshed with a Retina display, and retain its same design. The lack of Retina display was one of the main drawbacks reviewers and consumers pointed out when choosing between a 9.7-inch iPad and the 7.9-inch iPad mini.
As with all Apple rumors, take them with a grain of salt. Reports like these come out all the time and should not be taken as truth, but the dates do fall in line with Tim Cook's statement about when Apple would release new products.
