With the "Year of the Rooster" coming to an end, fans begin to speculate the next upcoming "Overwatch" event. One fan has theorized that the next event will not be based on real-life holidays but an actual in-game celebration.
YouTuber Stylosa recently uploaded a video sharing his thoughts about the next event for the game. While many fans are expecting a possible holiday (like White Day or Easter) to be next, he claimed that the next event might reflect off of a possible occasion in the game. Simply put, the next event might be the first ever lore-themed event.
"Overwatch" Theory Points to a Whole New Batch of Lore
To begin with, the "Recall" animated short reveals that the Numbani Unity Day event was postponed due to a certain incident. In line with this, the original video was published back during late March 2016. For this reason, there is a possibility that Blizzard might formally "host" the said event this year possibly through a new animated short.
Similarly, the Public Test Region (PTR) has different launch music that reflects the first ever animated short wherein Reaper and Widowmaker were trying to steal Doomfist's gauntlet. Despite their efforts, Winston and Tracer were able to successfully fend off the attackers. With this in mind, this possibly new cinematic might finally feature the teased "Overwatch" character, Doomfist.
The animated short might play out with Talon trying to steal the gauntlet again during the Numbani Unity Day celebration. Lucio would most likely be holding his highly-advertised concert until Reaper and Widowmaker begin their operation. However, seeing as Sombra does not seem to not fully agree with Talon's motives, she might contact her "friend," Katya Volskaya, to send units to stop the organization.
Incidentally, Tracer might also be at the said scene with all the ongoing action. Naturally, she would try her best and team up with the fellow Russian soldiers (maybe even Zarya) to stop Talon from stealing the gauntlet. Despite this, keep in mind the data mined image in the PTR regarding the broken glass on the payload, as per PCGamesN.
For this reason, it might be safe to say that the Talon operatives might actually succeed in their mission in stealing the gauntlet this time. Although, there is also a chance that Blizzard might finally introduce the next person who will wield the gauntlet. Remember, Doomfist is only a moniker for those who have the gauntlet, meaning that whoever takes the weapon will most likely be the next person who carries on the title.
Again, all of the said information is merely a theory and Blizzard has yet to actual confirm any future events, cinematics or potential new characters. Even so, the studio loves to tease all sorts of information before the big reveal. For now, fans can play "Overwatch" on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
