Lower back pain occurs more frequently as one gets older. Movement can be limited with lower back pain. Now there is new relief for it, as personalized therapy can be used for lower back pain.
Lower back pain can be disabling for some people. Movement can make it worse, and those who experience it can have limited movement for days. However, there could be hope now. Researchers say that a combination of manual therapy and exercise can help relieve lower back pain.
Researchers from the University of Eastern Finland say that a personalized exercise program for lower back pain would help patients more. Generic programs aren't tailored for what each patient feels, and a more personalized therapy would be more accurate and effective for the patient. Results are also much better for those who get personalized lower back therapy.
Of those who suffer from lower back pain, only 15 percent are said to get therapy that is specific for them. Majority of those who have lower back pain still go for a more generic type of treatment. People who have lower back pain might have trouble in positioning themselves, as movement is associated with pain.
Patients who try to find the right position for their movement might actually worsen the condition further. No specific exercise has been made yet for lower back pain, according to the University of Eastern Finland's site. A more specific program then would have to be made for each person that has lower back pain.
For the study, 70 people with lower back pain participated in it. The participants were given either a specific therapy designed to their own issues, or else a generic therapy. After three months the participants were evaluated, and another evaluation would be done 12 months later, as Science Daily reports.
Patients had five therapy sessions in total. After the study, it was found that those who had personalized therapy had better results than those that had generic therapy. Personalized therapy used for lower back pain has been more beneficial then. A study shows that smoke counseling is much better with lung cancer screening.
