Amidst the NBA All-Star Weekend, a major sports network just released its version of the latest 50 Greatest Players in the NBA. There are a lot of new names added and some were removed.
Naming the Top 50 Greatest NBA players is never easy. There are numerous things to consider why players should be even in the discussion. First is, were they a champion once in their career? Were they a game changer? Did they represent a franchise long enough to be called a franchise player? Did they dominate the game like no one have seen before? Lastly, did they entertain and represent the NBA the way fans expected?
NBA Legends Removed
The new list provided by CBS Network is very intriguing and compelling for some players. There were multiple NBA legends that were removed in the original list. Most of them are from the storied franchise of Boston Celtics. James Worthy of the Los Angeles Lakers, Willis Reed of New York Knicks, Bill Walton of Portland Trailblazers and the late great Pete Maravich was also replaced by up and coming players.
Up And Coming Players Added
As stated, there were a lot of players added to the list. The silent assassin from San Antonio Spurs headline the newest addition to the list. Kawhi Leonard is named top 50 while Dwight Howard is number 49. Paul Pierce also made it on the list and the newly inducted Hall Of Famer, Allen Iverson bagged the 34th spot. Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant and Chris Paul round up the 20-30 list.
As for Stephen Curry, he made the list and was considered as top 19 among the 50 NBA greatest players of all time. The franchise player from the Dallas Mavericks, Dirk Nowitzki is number 17 and The Big Ticket, Kevin Garnett who was a pure monster on both ends of the game in his prime garnered number 15 spot.
Kobe Bryant who just recently retired is number 10 on the list. A lot of fans think that it should be higher but the network just made their list official. The most dominating big men in the game, Shaquille O'Neal is next to Kobe and The Big Fundamental, Tim Duncan climbs its way to number 7.Where does LeBron rank this time? The King sits on the number 2 spot while The GOAT, Michael Jordan is still untouchable as the greatest NBA player ever.
All Star Weekend
The NBA All-Star Weekend just started in New Orleans. NBA paraded some of their future stars in Team America vs Team World. They also featured the NBA Celebrity game wherein celebrities from each side of the county participated. It was also the time wherein former NBA players catches to play with the current WNBA players.
