The highly-touted Multi-Windows view, which first made its appearance in the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, has been spoken of highly in the smartphone industry. Now it seems that Microsoft will be following suit, as speculation suggests that the upcoming Windows Blue will have a 50-50 split screen feature.
Rumors about Windows Blue have been flying thick and fast, and rumors also hint that Microsoft plans to merge Windows 8 and the Windows Phone operating system.
"The Windows Blue project is being developed by a team separate from the Windows and Windows Phone departments and its purpose is to merge the two operating systems to compete against Google's Android and Chrome, according to the rumors," reports DigiTimes.
Rumors suggest that Microsoft is developing a new split-screen mode for the upcoming Windows release and a new leaked screenshot of Windows Blue build 9388 seems to confirm that such a feature is currently in the works.
The photo leaked by Winclub.pl shows a 50-50 Snap View mode of the upcoming operating system that allows users to run two different applications side by side. The 50-50 split screen feature is very similar to the multi-view feature found in Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean-run Samsung devices.
The 50-50 Snap View feature seems to be specifically designed for smaller tablets. Many tablet owners will definitely want the new feature to arrive on Microsoft tablets, as the tech giant is reportedly planning to bring a new range of Surface devices to the market, including 7- and 8-inch devices.
As the new feature is currently rumored for smaller tablets only, Windows Phone 8 (WP8) smartphone users may also want the feature in their handsets.
We don't know when Microsoft will announce the Windows Blue, so till then we will have to take the rumors with a pinch of salt and wait for the company to announce the operating system.
