HP Pro x2 With Military Specs Poised To Rival The Surface Pro

HP just unveiled the latest version of its hybrid laptop. The HP Pro x2 612 G2 may be a mouthful but it's definitely impressive enough to be talked about as a potential Microsoft Surface rival.

The HP Pro x2 612 G2 is the second coming of the corporate-flavored G1 laptop. What makes it a lot better than its predecessor is its processor. The new top of the line HP hybrid comes with the latest 7th-generation Kaby Lake CPU along with Intel Graphics 615, 8GB of RAM and 128GB to 512GB M.2 SSD which is strikingly removable.

The device's removable back cover and fanless design allow for a high rate of repairability though it may not be necessary considering the 2.65-pound hybrid device is equipped with military specs. Engadget took notice of the new HP Pro x2's MIL-STD 810G specs. The feature, along with the Corning Gorilla Glass 4, keeps the device protected in the presence of dust, humidity, and changes in temperature. The military grade rating also prevents damage from drops and functional shock.

The HP Pro x2 also comes with an active Wacom stylus. Sketching or drawing on the device's Full HD (1920 x 1280) LED touch screen using the stylus pen is even made better with a 165-degree fold-out kickstand. Typing on the Pro x2 is also better with the Collaboration Keyboard which, according to PC World, features dedicated keys for voice and video calls.

This isn't the first time this year that an HP laptop is making quite a stir. At the CES 2017 held in January, HP unveiled the Elite x360. The 13-inch lightweight HP Elite x360 was created with businesspeople in mind. The highly portable laptop is equipped with the Sure View privacy feature that'll help keep top-secret company documents safe.

The HP Pro x2 612 G2 is available for $979 though the price will definitely go up for the high-end versions of the device. Accessories for the HP Pro x2 such as the Rugged Case and Elite USB-C Dock will also be available in March for $49 and $149, respectively.
