Overwatch hero Orisa is now under the subject of controversy as some fans are beginning to express their complaints about how Blizzard has added yet another "female" hero. Incidentally, the studio reveals the process of how they came up with the idea of the robot.
Disapproval Towards The Overwatch Hero Orisa
Orisa has received a lot of attention since her initial reveal for her distinctive moves and character background. Not only does her backstory hint at the highly-awaited Doomfist character but she also seem to have a spot in this season's competitive meta. However, Orisa has seemingly been drawing in some negative feedback from certain fans as well.
According to J Station X, some players are complaining that Blizzard has released yet another female hero following the hacker Sombra and healing sniper Ana. They have noted that this is the third time in a row that Blizzard has done this and have begun stating their opinions all over social media. In line with this, they have claimed that the game contains too many women as it is.
One netizen on YouTube voiced his disapproval on the comments section of a video while another user claimed that he is not sexist but is disappointed that all the new heroes are women. Blizzard has been very upfront about their diversity in the game as they have included characters that have different backgrounds and preferences. Despite this, the gender ratio is still fairly balanced as there are 12 male characters and 11 female heroes.
Diversity In The Game And Orisa's Creation
Furthermore, if players would count out the non-human characters, there would be an equal ratio of both male and female heroes. In spite of the ongoing negative feedback from several players, the fanbase seems to be smitten with the new hero and has been creating fanart of her with Bastion and D.Va's mech. In line with this, lead writer Michael Chu claimed that she would have a technological edge towards older omnics like Bastion and Zenyatta, as per Kotaku.
Similarly, he also claimed that Orisa is a complicated character as it was difficult trying to pin down a personality for her robust design. Because of this, they used the character Efi Oladele to help bring Orisa's elements together. In turn, the robot is a hero that is seen through Efi's eyes as she is basically her creator. Fans who want to try out the Overwatch hero Orisa can play the game on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
