Sony is rumored to release a new Android smartphone soon, the Xperia i1, code named "Honami". The specs on the camera are enough to rival the Nokia Lumia 920 and 928, which boasts a camera that bests all the rest.
The Xperia i1 Honami specs were leaked out and according to the info, the camera is the main attraction. Featured on the device will be a 16 to 20 megapixel 1/16" camera sensor. Sony included a built-in xenon flash and its trademark BIONZ imaging processor and might even throw in the Cybershot G lens. Found in Sony's advanced digital DSLR cameras, the imaging processor is sure to challenge the Nokia Lumia 920's camera specs.
The Nokia Lumia 920 camera sensor is an 8.7 megapixel 1/3.2" with Nokia's PureView technology, which Nokia has been showing off in a new ad campaign. The new ad shows a side-by-side comparison of a photo taken with the Lumia 920 camera against the same photo shot with a Samsung Galaxy S3.
With camera specs like that, the Xperia i1 Honami will surely grab the attention of users who enjoy taking photos with their smartphones. Although Sony is playing up the camera on this new Android smartphone/cameraphone let's not forget about the other features.
As IT168 reported, the Xperia i1 Honami is rumored to be an updated version of the Xperia Z with similar specs such as a 5-inch 1080p display. Under the hood is a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, with 2GB or more of RAM. It's rumored to pack 32 GB of internal storage, have a 2700 to 3000 mAh battery and be waterproof and dustproof just like the Xperia Z. As for a release date, the Xperia i1 Honami may be released on the Chinese market first before going global in August or even September at IFA 2013 in Berlin.
