Nokia's upcoming Lumia 928 smartphone was revealed Friday and will be available online and in stores on May 16, exclusively from Verizon Wireless. Companion devices are becoming the norm for mobile use, so why hasn't Nokia released a tablet device to go along with its Lumia flagship series by now?
According to reports, Nokia is expected to showcase its new Lumia 928 smartphone at a media event next week, along with a Windows tablet that will be Nokia's first Windows tablet and is said to run either Windows 8 or Windows RT.
With that in mind, if you're thinking about getting the Lumia 928, or you already own the Lumia 920, you may be looking to get a companion device to go along with it. Sure, you can go ahead and get the upcoming Nokia Windows tablet, but there are other options.
Alternatively, the Microsoft Surface Pro or the Pro RT would make an ideal companion device for either the Lumia 920 or the 928. Running on the same OS platform makes the devices easy to sync with one another. You can access your files and folders on both devices using SkyDrive. This especially comes in handy for work at an organization that implements "bring your own device" (BYOD). You can access your work files from either device.
As reported by GSM Insider, the rumored upcoming Nokia Windows tablet will have a 10.1-inch display, a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, a 1 GHz processor and 1GB of RAM. Should you choose to get the Microsoft's Surface Pro, which runs Windows 8, you'll get a 10.6-inch Full HD display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. There's an optional Touch Cover keypad, and it runs third-gen Intel Core i5 Processor with 4GB RAM. The Surface RT has the same display as the Pro, but with a 1366 x 768 resolution and runs on the Windows RT OS. It's powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor with 2GB RAM.
Microsoft Surface Pro and Surface RT both have the same sleek look and design as the Nokia Lumia 920 and 928, and as a companion device would complement the smartphone. The Touch Cover keypad accessory and built-in kickstand lets you use the Surface Pro or RT like a laptop.
The Touch Cover comes in various colors, such as pink, black, red, white and blue, so you may even match it up to your Lumia 920, which comes in five color schemes. No word yet on whether the Lumia 928 will come in various colors, but even if not, any color Touch Cover added to the Surface companion device would go great with a black or white device.
