Persona 5 Suffers A Major Problem With Its Time Management

Persona 5 gives players the freedom to do whatever they want during the day and even at night as long as it falls under certain conditions. However, there are plenty of times in the game when the time management system becomes a bit too absurd in terms of restricting players.

The Strange Time Management System

Like its two predecessors, the latest Persona installment lets players spend time with others, raise their stats, explore dungeons or make some items during their free time. The game fully makes use of its life-simulator aspect and acts as part of the game's main charm. However, the fifth installment seems to have some problems when dealing with free time.

One example from LightgunGalaxy is that the protagonist can craft lockpicks to unlock treasure chests found in palaces or mementos. The thing is, players can only craft this during the evening or in class after they bond with a certain confidant. However, there are plenty of times when the game restricts players from doing anything during the evening.

Moreover, sometimes the game thrusts the plot in a certain direction, which the player cannot control. This is especially a hassle when it comes to renting DVDs as sometimes the game will not allow the protagonist to return the item before or on the same day. In line with this, the late fees will pile up which could become extremely expensive at times.

Nevertheless, the game places such restrictions as a way to force players into carefully choosing their actions. Even so, it seems strange that the game would restrict even the most simple actions like crafting one or two lockpicks before bed during crucial times in the plot.

Persona 5 Negotiations Pay Homage To Franchise

Unlike its two previous counterparts, the latest installment brings back demon negotiation from the first two titles in the franchise, as per Polygon. This acts as a great homage to the Shin Megami Tensei series in general as their games used this method to sway demons and earn things like money or items. The game goes even further by giving demons certain personalities that actually tie into the plot.

With all of this in mind, it is clear to why Persona 5 has been getting such praise from both fans and critics alike. Despite its strange time management system, the game still captures players with its wit and style.
