ASUS prepping Memo Pad HD: Computex reveal on the cards?

The Android space will soon see yet another tablet unleash itself on the market, vying for consumers' attention. Reportedly, Tawain-based ASUS is prepping to release the successor to its 7-inch budget Memo Pad, dubbed the Memo Pad HD, at Computex 2013.

Computex 2013 is scheduled to be held next week and one will see a plethora of devices making their debut at the event. According to a report from Filipino blog Yugatech, the next-gen version of the affordable tablet from ASUS will also be introduced at the event.

The site is "pretty sure it will be announced in Computex" and has "almost all the details already."

Apparently, the Asus Memo Pad HD will tout a 7-inch IPS display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, putting it in the same league as the best-selling Nexus 7 from Google, which coincidentally is ASUS-made as well.

The Memo Pad HD, like all next-gen versions, will be an improvement on its predecessor. The Memo Pad has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, whereas the Memo Pad HD is rumored to have 1280 x 720 pixels. The Memo Pad HD will feature a 7-inch IPS LCD display.

Under the hood, the Memo Pad HD gets some more power when compared to the Memo Pad. The new model will have a quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz with 1GB of RAM. It will also support Bluetooth and GPS.

The Memo Pad HD will come in 16GB and run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. Per the report, ASUS will allegedly offer the Memo Pad HD for $169, which would make it more expensive than the Memo Pad which launched for $149. The increase in price is owing to higher component costs for the new variant.

The Android-powered tablet will be available in five different hues: white, black, blue, pink and yellow, compared to the three colors for the Memo Pad.

ASUS is a strong player in the tablet space and with the launch of the Memo Pad HD, the Taiwanese company would be able to further cement its place in the consumer market.
