OnePlus 5 vs Huawei Honor 9: Battle Of Affordable Flagship Smartphones

Huawei Honor 9 is already here and it offers high-end specs for a very affordable price. However, it's not the only best-priced flagship smartphone competing today for your attention. The China- made OnePlus 5 just resulted in a popular release with its thrilling specs and features at an affordable rate.

Price

The Honor 9 will soon be available for around $485, while the starting price of the OnePlus 5 is $479. According to TechRadar, the price of OnePlus 5 costs a significant amount compared to the new release smartphones of Samsung and Apple. However, if Huawei Honor 9 is priced similarly to last year's Honor 8, which is worth $400, this could be a great smartphone to fill the empty title abandoned by OnePlus being the cheapest flagship.

Design

The Honor 9 has a very stunning design that's different from the majority of smartphones today. It has a glass rear design that uses 15 layers of several materials, which causes light to reflect off it at various angles to produce an aurora-like effect. Also, the 155g smartphone has a metal frame to achieve its high-end look and comes in at 147.3 x 70.9 x 7.45mm. It is available at a Glacier Grey, Sapphire Blue and Midnight Black color variants.

Meanwhile, the OnePlus 5 has a slightly more traditional design and has a little Apple iPhone 7 Plus-inspired look. It has a slightly rounded metal body with a relatively invisible antenna which bands along the top and bottom part of the smartphone. The 153g mobile device is available in Slate Grey or Midnight Black variants, which comes 154.2 x 74.1 x 7.3mm. That means, OnePlus 5 is a little bit longer and wider compared to the Honor 9. However, it is slightly slimmer and almost accurately the same weight.

Specs

According to Tom's Guide, Honor 9's specs are looking pretty good. The flagship handset features a Kirin 960 CPU and Huawei's EMUI 5.1 OS. In terms of RAM, buyers can choose from 4GB or 6GB, both with 64GB of storage that can be expanded via microSD card. It runs Android 7 Nougat but expected to be updated once Android O has been officially released.

The OnePlus 5 has an octa-core Snapdragon 835 chipset, which is the same as HTC U11 and Samsung Galaxy S8. It has four cores clocked at 2.45GHz compared to the four cores clocked at 2.4GHz of Honor 9. The OnePlus flagship device also takes RAM to great levels, with a choice between 6GB and 8GB.
