Hewlett-Packard is gearing up to release its first-ever Android-powered laptop, the HP SlateBook x2, which was unveiled last month, very soon. The SlateBook x2 from HP will allegedly hit the U.S. shelves in August this year.
The HP device, however, will make its way to Europe a month earlier in July.
According to an UnwiredView report, "the SlateBook x2 will be released in the US sometime in August, and it looks like it's going to hit shelves a bit earlier in Europe." The site also reveals that "HP France has indicated that the SlateBook x2 would be in stores staring late July. Prices will start from €449 - detachable keyboard dock (with a second battery) included."
The HP SlateBook x2 is quite a versatile device and can double up as a tablet when the keyboard is detached from it.
"With a versatile 2-in-1 design, the flexibility and fun of a tablet meets the productivity and power of a notebook. Easily transition from tablet to notebook with a magnetic hinge design that makes docking and undocking work like magic," notes HP.
Prior to HP introducing the SlateBook x2, the company's range of laptops were powered by Windows OS. The SlateBook x2 is the company's first laptop to run on the Android platform and it will be interesting to see how consumers respond to the device.
Along with SlateBook x2, HP is also slated to release its Split x2 convertible laptop. The Split x2, however, runs on Windows 8 and not Android and is an upgraded variant of the SlateBook x2. The Split x 2 is expected to be priced around $799.99.
The Android-powered SlateBook x2 features a 10.1-inch full HD LED-Backlit touchscreen and has 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution. The device will be able to store up to 64GB of hard drive data and is speculated to come in 16GB to 64GB variants.
The HP SlateBook x2 will come with the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. Under the hood, the laptop will house a NVIDIA Tegra 4 quad-core processor that is clocked at 1.8 GHz. The device also has four ports, including a combo audio jack, a USB 2.0 port, SD card slot and HDMI port.
The SlateBook x2 also boasts a front-facing HP TrueVision 720p webcam and a 1080p rear-facing camera.
The device will come in two hues: snow white and smoke silver and price starts at $479.99.
