Windows Phone 8 (WP8) powered handsets are getting popular within the smartphone community and now many smartphones enthusiasts want to try the new operating system. With the increasing popularity of WP8 handsets, carriers are now offering more handsets running on windows platform and now reports indicate that Samsung's WP8 powered ATIV Odyssey is heading to US Cellular.
Samsung was the first company to launch a WP8 smartphone, the ATIV S, and followed it up by launching the ATIV Odyssey, which is currently available only on U.S. carrier Verizon. A recent Engadget report now suggests that they have received leaked promo material of the Samsung ATIV Odyssey on US Cellular.
The Engadget report says, "US Cellular's been promising a WP8 handset for quite some time now, and it looks like the company's about to deliver exactly that. As you might recall, US Cellular's last Windows Phone offering was the entry-level ZTE Render which ran WP7.5 (Tango). We recently obtained promo materials for an ATIV Odyssey with US Cellular branding."
If rumors are to be believed, the ATIV Odyssey will be the first WP8 smartphone for US Cellular. The carrier only has the Windows Phone 7.5 powered ZTE Render in its windows phone portfolio. The addition of ATIV Odyssey will definitely attract customers looking out for a decent WP8 smartphone on the carrier.
Verizon is currently selling the ATIV Odyssey for $49.99 on a two-year contract and for $449.99 without contract. Details regarding price of the handset on US Cellular is not known; however, customers will hope that the carrier puts a competitive price tag on the smartphone.
The ATIV Odyssey packs in impressive features such as a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with 480 x 800 pixels resolution. A Qualcomm processor clocked at 1.5GHz powers the handset. The device is equipped with a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera.
The handset measures 4.82 x 2.51 x 0.43 inches and weighs 4.41 ounces.
US Cellular has not officially confirmed the handset.
