The HTC One is selling so well that the company even adjusted its price upwardly. The troubled smartphone brand depends on the HTC One to recover but despite the good numbers, its chief operating officer (COO) stepped down Tuesday.
HTC is counting on the HTC One to pull its sales numbers up and it seems the plan of the smartphone manufacturer is working.
Android Authority reported that the May sales number of HTC jumped by 48 percent compared to its April figures. Translating this in monetary values, HTC raked in $NT 19.6 billion in April and significantly improved it to $NT 29 billion in May. Adding these numbers up, HTC is well on target for its second quarter goal of $NT70 billion.
The company attributes the gains to the appeal of the HTC One, which did well despite the roll out of the Samsung Galaxy S4. Five million units of HTC One were shipped within the first month of its launch.
HTC One has proved to be so popular that the company has even decided to hike its price. Current HTC Store prices for the said unlocked HTC One show at $599.99 or about a $25 increase from its previous tag price.
There are speculations that this might be due to the HTC One Nexus User Experience that the company will launch on June 26 on Google Play. Another theory is that HTC wants to keep the price of HTC One within the price range of the Galaxy S4.
Despite the sucess of HTC One, the company still has a long way to go. The company is being plagued by resignations and Bloomberg reported that the latest to step down is the COO, Matthew Costelo, who will step down from his post merely after three years at HTC. Costelo will be staying on as an executive adviser for the company.
However, "HTC's COO stepping down is a positive move as there were too many executives. A moderate streamlining is good for the company," Bloomber cited Bamboo Lin, an analyst for SinoPac Securities in Taipei, as saying.
