Nokia's metal-built Lumia 925 has hit the German shelves Monday, with other market in Europe, China, U.S. and other countries to follow soon. What's more, the 4.5-inch Windows Phone 8-powered smartphone from the Finnish company will also pack in the new "Glance Screen" feature.
The Glance Screen feature is a standby screen clock that enables users to view the battery charge and time on the phone's screen without touching the display. Users will also be able to simply double tap on the Lumia 925's standby screen to unlock it.
"An additional feature coming to Lumia first with the Nokia Lumia 925 is a beta version of the Nokia Glance Screen introducing the standby screen clock. Now, with a quick look and without pushing any buttons, users can see the time and the battery level indicator on the screen when the phone is not used. A double tap on the standby screen now wakes the phone up, making it easier to unlock," notes the Nokia press release.
Lumia 925 users also have the option to "switch on a night mode for reduced glare in the dark."
However, the Glance Screen feature is in the beta stage and Nokia reveals that the final version would be available to most WP8-powered Lumia smartphone owners via the impending Lumia Amber software update.
"Once the commercial version of the Nokia Glance Screen is released, it will become available to most Windows Phone 8 powered Lumia smartphones in conjunction with the upcoming Lumia Amber software update," per the Nokia Conversations blog.
Announced earlier in May this year, the Lumia 925 sports a rectangular design. Else it is quite similar to the Lumia 920. One of the notable differences between the Lumia 920 and the Lumia 925 (apart from the new Smart Camera app) is the inclusion of a metal body in the latter for additional durability. Per Nokia, with the Lumia 925, the company "introduces metal for the first time to the Nokia Lumia range with the polycarbonate back coming in white, grey or black."
The Nokia Lumia 925 is slated to hit the U.S. shelves soon. It will be interesting to see if the smartphone can better the Lumia 920's success story.
