Google, in collaboration with ASUS, had released the 7-inch Nexus 7 tablet in July 2012 and after several months, the docking station made its appearance in March this year. Now, interestingly, the dock has been taken off from sale in the U.S.
The official docking station for Nexus 7 was available on Google Play store for $29.99. The long-awaited accessory was not even available across the world as it was released only for some specific countries.
Now the dock is no more available in the U.S. Google Play store. The Nexus 7 as well as the docking station have faced numerous supply issues since their launch. It's possible that the dock is just temporary out of stock and may be back in inventory soon.
However, rumors of the next-generation Nexus tablet have been surfacing for quite some time now and many market observers believe that the upcoming device may soon make its appearance. It is possible that the next-generation Google tablet will debut soon and is a reason why Google is discontinuing the Nexus 7's accessories.
Another reason for the tablet's dock to go missing from Google Play store is that the accessory is not attracting many buyers and Google has decided to stop selling the accessory.
The docking station provides a landscape docking solution for your Nexus 7 tablet. The dock measures 8.6 x 2.6 x 1.2 inch (219.1 x 65.1 x 30.3 mm) and weighs only 9.9 ounces (280 grams).
You can also charge your Nexus 7 using the dock, which has four pins on the side. The docking station also has audio out via a 3.5mm jack on the rear of the device.
The Nexus 7 dock also has a microUSB port at the back. However, there is no video connectivity option on the docking station, which means one cannot use the dock to play Google Play store content on a bigger screen such as a TV.
